Uma das três magistradas da 1a corte de apelação da Guatemala. Apesar de reeleita em 2014 para novo mandato de 5 anos pelo Congresso Guatemalteco, pediu exoneração em 06 de outubro de 2014 e denunciou um grande caso de corrupção envolvendo o vice-presidente da Guatemala e o presidente do Congresso. Ao denunciar a corrupção na Justiça Guatemalteca, bem como a interferência de outros poderes nas nomeações do Judiciário em violação à independência judicial e à separação dos poderes, a Magistrada colocou sua família em risco. A Comissão Interamericana de Direitos Humanos (IACHR) ofereceu-lhe proteção. Atualmente a magistrada é professora Visitante da Guatemala na Harvard University (Scholar at Risk) e Fellow at Radcliffe Institute for advanced Studies (Robert G. James Scholar at Risk Fellow 2015 – 2016), convidada pelo Magistrado Mark Wolf da Corte Federal dos EUA que tem liderado um esforço anticorrupção nos EUA.  Visita o Brasil a convite do Juiz Sérgio Moro. Visita a UnB a convite da Dra. Flávia Vera, ECO e EPRG.

During year 2014 she was reelected by the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala as Magistrate for the Appeals Court in the nominee of judges in Guatemala for the 2014 – 2019 period, but she renounced to the nomination and became the whistle blower in a case of grand corruption involving the Vice-president of Guatemala and the former President of Congress. Her decision to speak out about the serious corruption issues within the Justice System in Guatemala, as well as the interference from other branches of the government, in naming judiciary officials, violating judicial independence and separation of powers, put her and her family at great risk. The Inter American Commission of Human Right – IACHR- has granted her and her family precautionary measures. She is a Scholar at Risk at Harvard and a Fellow at Radcliffe Institute for advanced Studies. (Robert G. James Scholar at Risk Fellow 2015 – 2016).
